There she sat on the floor in Bethany, at Jesus’ feet

Custom said that a male disciple was to seat there

She did not care, her love was greater

Her brother Lazarus was there, fresh from the dead

And so were the disciples, at the table they ate

Not Mary, she was there, but a deeper look it would take to see her hiding place

She did not care, her love was greater

Suddenly a thought brightens her face

As Jesus shares that His impending death comes apace

Still unseen by those above

She disappears below the scene

She did not care, her love was greater

Excitedly she takes the alabaster jar her father saved for her sake

A year’s wages worth

Should I, or should I not? Her heart is rent

This is my father’s fortune, all he had, all he gave me

Not for this, but for my wedding

She did not care, her love was greater

As Jesus and His friends share

A figure at the door suddenly shapes

As all turn to look at her

She kneels, drops her hair, and the priceless bottle she breaks

She did not care, her love was greater

Anointing Him upon His approaching burial

With her own hair she wipes His feet

As the nard aroma impregnates the bewildered meet

She did not care, her love was greater

Custom said that a woman does not touch Raboni

That a woman does not let down her hair

That a woman does not waste her dowry

She did not care, her love was greater
